Endine Gaiano

The first village in the valley along the road linking Lovere and Bergamo, Endine Gaiano lies between the mountains and valleys of Val Cavallina, in a beautiful landscape dominated by Lake Endine. Here art and nature reign supreme.

Not just nature. For tourists visiting Endine Gaiano, the village also offers an artistic heritage of great interest, especially with regard to sacred buildings. Among the most appealing is the Church of San Giorgio, Endine’s patron saint, already a point of reference for the town in the 13th century and progressively modified by numerous operations of decoration and restoration over the years. The parish church of San Giorgio houses splendid works of art, such as the “Madonna with Child in Glory and Saints Roch, Remigius and Sebastian” by Domenico Carpinoni and the “Madonna del Rosario” painted by Gian Paolo Cavagna.

Another familiar building is the church of San Remigio, destroyed by the flooding of a river in the 15th century and rebuilt as a vow of religious gratitude after the terrible plague of 1630, which spared the inhabitants of Endine.

Endine Gaiano overlooks the shores of Lake Endine, in an enchanting naturalistic area that has been well preserved over time, in part due to the Park set up specifically to protect its rich flora and fauna. The lake thus represents an oasis for the people of Endine and the many tourists who have the opportunity to spend some leisure time sunbathing on its beaches, angling on its waters stocked with many fish and practising numerous sports, including windsurfing, canoeing and rowing.

In addition to Lake Endine, the municipality is also the location of Lake Gaiano, the smallest low-lying lake in Lombardy. Near Lake Gaiano you can visit Valle del Freddo or Valle del Diavolo (Devil’s Valley), a unique natural park: in this area, in fact, plants usually found at high altitudes, such as edelweiss, grow, even though its altitude is just approximately 360 metres above sea level!
