Trescore Balneario

The art of Lorenzo Lotto, aristocratic architecture, spa waters. Welcome to Trescore Balneario, the largest town in the valley.

Trescore Balneario is the largest municipality in Val Cavallina and the richest from a cultural and artistic point of view. In fact, the town hosts some of the most prestigious architecture and works of art in the area, and it is definitely worth a visit.

The jewel of the village of Trescore is the Church dedicated to Saints Barbara and Brigida, located inside the Villa Suardi Park and commissioned by the cousins Giovanni Battista and Maffeo Suardi in the early 16th century. In 1524 it was frescoed by Lorenzo Lotto (with the exception of the apse, which scholars have attributed to an anonymous painter from the circle of the Bergamasque artist Jacopino de’ Scipioni). The painter arrived in Trescore Balneario on request by Giovan Battista Suardi, who commissioned the work from him.

In the central Piazza Cavour, the beating heart of the town, alongside the 13th-century mediaeval tower you can see the monument to Igea, the goddess of health. Other architectural points of interest include the Romanesque church of San Cassiano and the Chiesa del Mirabile (Church of the Wondrous).

In the Canton district there is the splendid Villa Terzi, a complete example of 18th-century architecture with its notably unitarian design, now an attractive location for weddings.

To the south, on the other hand, there is Villa Celati Mosconi, in Neoclassical style (it dates back to 1836) and the Spa complex of Ancient Roman origin, immersed in the green setting of a beautiful park.

The properties of the sulphurous water of Trescore have been known since Roman times. Since then, spa activities have progressed right up until now, together with medical, scientific and technological research. Today, Terme di Trescore is a very modern spa centre frequented all year round.
